Toyota introduced the 2018 Toyota Camry during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in Monday, offering a refresh of the best-selling car in the United States. This is the eighth new Toyota Camry introduced since the brand made its debut.
“The all-new 2018 Camry is, without a doubt, the most captivating mid-size sedan we’ve ever produced,” Toyota’s senior vice president of automotive operations Bob Carter said. “It delivers on everything Camry owners have come to expect from America’s best-selling car, and adds to it, jaw-dropping design, more advanced technology, cutting-edge safety systems, and stirring performance that raises it to an unparalleled level of excitement.”
Toyota said it wanted to produce a car with an exterior that exhibits “attitude” and an interior that feels emotional. “Striking character lines around and along the body augment the aggressive front and rear fenders, giving the reimagined Camry a sportiness that’s never before been perceived on this model,” Toyota said, noting it lowered the overall height of the car by a full inch.
Three 2018 Camry powertrains
Toyota will introduce four models including the entry level LE, the SE, the XSE and the premium XLE. Toyota said the SE and SXE mid-range models will fall under the “sport brand. The XSE will offer 19-inch black machined-finish alloy wheels, “catamaran accents” and unique features like a sculpted rocker panel, rear spoiler lip and more. Toyota will sell models with three different powertrains including a 3.5-liter V6, a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Dynamic Force Engine and a hybrid engine.
“The hybrid’s Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) features a new Sport Mode setting that allows the driver to execute smooth yet quick “gear” shifts of the simulated 6-speed sequential shift transmission,” Toyota explained noting it employs the aforementioned 2.5-liter DFE.
