The Ford Shelby GT350 has been the top of the Mustang heap for a few years now, but we’ve known for some time that a GT500 is coming to top it. Now, as part of an already leaky 2019 Detroit Auto Show, we have images that appear to be of a factory marketing brochure for the new top dog supercharged cross-plane crank V8 Mustang. And from what we’ve heard, at least 750 horsepower.
Update 7:24 p.m.: The Ford Shelby GT500 will feature a 5.2 liter cross-plane crank V8 with a big 2.65-liter Eaton supercharger on top, according to two sources claiming knowledge. They also say that the engine will produce 755 HP and 700 lb-ft of torque, producing a 0-60 time of about 3.5 seconds. Look for a quarter mile time below 11 seconds. It’ll have a newly developed dual-clutch transmission at least to start, with no manual option available at launch, according to one of the sources.
Update 8:31 p.m.: A third source claiming knowledge of the GT500 says to take the 755/700 figures with a possible grain of salt. Ford themselves haven’t even certified the horsepower of the engine yet, the source said, and are merely targeting a figure “north of 700.” That could even mean north of 755 horsepower, but it might be a while before we find out.
The Ford Performance brochure images come to us from Mustang performance shop Chicane23, and the car here definitely matches the GT500 that showed up on Instagram after a Ford event last year. We think this is the car.

While we’re lacking concrete details, we know the GT350 already has 526 horsepower from its 5.2-liter V8. So it wouldn’t be too farfetched to see this with over the 700 HP mark thanks to the blower. Indeed, we had heard 720 HP and 650 lb-ft of torque last year.
Update: On closer look at the small print, it appears that this engine may not have a flat plane crank. We will update as we learn more.
Update 6:39 p.m.: A source at Ford has informed us that the Shelby Mustang GT500 will have 750 horsepower. We will know officially when the full slate of information is released tomorrow morning.

Take this leak with a grain of salt, as it still hasn’t been confirmed, but Jalopnik has reached out to Ford and we will update this post with more information as it becomes available.
