As a society full of innovation and new technology, we give a lot of attention to Tesla Motors and its semi-autonomous features. But even for owners, not all of those features come free—permanently, that is. According to some recent Tesla forum posts, it looks as if the company now offers free trials for fancier perks.
After some hard searching, we couldn’t find an official announcement from the company about the free trials (and therefore can’t confirm them). But Electrek managed to find an image of what looks to be a pop-up message on the Model S screen, offering for a one-month trial of the optional “Autopilot Convenience Features” package. The trial includes parking with Tesla’s Summon update that came to the car in January.

Experience Tesla Autopilot
Try Autopilot Convenience Features and experience a stress-free commute. This one-month free trial enables automatic steering, speed, lane changing, and parking with Summon. Once your trial begins, you’ll receive an email with instructions for permanently upgrading your Tesla.
Since all of the vehicles have the hardware to run the autopilot features, a click of the screen can enable the car to run the additional autopilot and Summon features. We’ve seen plenty of examples of people using Summon to park their car and retrieve it from garages, and we’ve even walked a Model S like a dog.
We’ll keep an eye out to see if Tesla officially says anything about the trials, but for now, it seems as if owners have at least a month to test the autopilot sensors out on their offspring for free.
