When you’re the President of the United States, you’re afforded certain perks: a private jet, personal bodyguards, access to confidential information. But it’s the latest perk that’s making citizens of the U.S. red with envy.
HBO has decided to provide President Obama with early screeners of the show, which means he’ll know the fate of Jon Snow before everyone else. Forget Area 51, I just really want to know what’s going to happen to the Stark family, who were in tatters the last time we checked. And the fact that the show isn’t going to follow George R.R. Martin’s books means we have no barometer for what to expect.
Journalist Vanessa Golembewski, however, is attempting to “test democracy” by filing a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, asking Obama to share the screeners with the public. If you thought information regarding national security was sensitive, getting information from movie studios about their properties is next to impossible.
This season, HBO decided not to share screeners with journalists, likely to keep people from spoiling what’s on the horizon. Not that it’s too hard to guess what’s actually going to happen. If Jon Snow really does stay dead it’ll be a huge shocker.
Hey, Obama. If Jon Snow is dead blink twice.
Golembewski’s chances of getting her FOIA approved are zero because the White House is exempt from FOIA requests. If you really want to watch the season 6 early, your best bet would be to become besties with the President. But, honestly, you have a better chance of dating Taylor Swift.
Games of Thrones Season 6 airs its first episode on April 24.
