Wow, where did this one come from? Natsume, apparently digging through the closet, pulled out an old Super Nintendo cult-classic by the name of Wild Guns and decided to breathe new life into it after 22 years.
This latest game will be called Wild Guns Reloaded, and it will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4. Natsume has confirmed that the two leading characters, Clint and Annie, will be returning, and two new characters are locked and loaded to join them. If we are going by the trends on the Super Nintendo, I am so hoping for a robot and a bratty little kid.
CEO of Natsume Atari Inc.Takashi Matsumoto made a statement on the game, saying it is being released in celebration of the company’s 30th anniversary.
With our 30th anniversary this year, it’s the perfect time to revisit one of our classic and most beloved titles. The original programmer, designer, and sound creator of Wild Guns are excited to have an opportunity to revisit their game many years later, and bring it to a modern Sony audience.
The original Wild Guns was a late 1994 release on the Super Nintendo, a console not particularly known for third-person shooters. While not exactly what we call a “third-person shooter” these days, Wild Guns showed many early tendencies of what we see in the genre today like taking cover, strafing, and firing into a faux-3D background created by sprite layers.
It’s a lost classic of the Super Nintendo age, and I recommend you hunt it down and give it a look. If not, then stay tuned for more information on this new game at E3 2016.
And by the way, when did Natsume Atari become a “thing?” That merger slipped under my radar.
