As predicted, DrinkBox Studios dungeon crawler Severed didn’t remain a PS Vita exclusive for very long. However, I’m willing to admit that I made a mistake in its first destination beyond Sony’s handheld. I assumed the game would make the leap onto smartphone and tablets where its touch controls would shine on gaming’s largest audience.
Instead, Nintendo is picking up the title first with a release on both the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS.
Consider yourselves lucky Nintendo owners. Severed has been doing very well with critics while making the rounds, and it is definitely a title you should keep your eye on. Strangely enough, those who enjoy first-dungeon crawling through the Etrian Odyssey series will be the crowd who finds the most fun here. Just not the same cutesy anime aesthetic.
Am I correct in assuming that this will be the Wii U’s most disturbing game once it makes the jump? Possibly! I can’t think of Mario or Link ripping off the limbs of their foes and using them as armor.
Be sure to look out for Severed on the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U before the end of the summer.
