Game of Thrones: See the incredible CGI behind “Battle of the Bastards”

Season 6 of Game of Thrones had a lot of memorable moments, from Lyanna Mormont to the Waif acting like the Terminator. But it was season 6’s penultimate episode, “Battle of the Bastards,” that stood out the most for its violence and chaotic beauty. We’ve seen some intense battles in Game of Thrones before but that one was easily the best (and difficult to watch).

We already got a glimpse of what it was like for the cast and crew to film that episode. Now, get a look at the CGI wizardy that went into creating episode 9’s intense battle. It’s astonishing how sophisticated CGI has become over the past several years, and “Battle of the Bastards” is yet another example of how to do it right. Honestly, it’s tough to tell the fake from the real.

Clearly, a lot of effort went into that episode in particular, from the actors to the filmmakers to the people creating the digital extras. It’s fascinating to see how they were able to achieve their creative vision and a great way to relive the battle one more time.
