Starbucks unveils new Verismo System, aims to bring better coffee and espresso home

I drink a lot of coffee. I try to drink good coffee, typically. My wife calls me a snob, but whatever. I also turn my nose up a Starbucks. That’s because I try to buy from local joints when I travel.

I do respect this about Starbucks, though: they’re trying to bring quality coffee and espresso to the home, fast-maker market.

The company has introduced the new Verismo System. It features a fancy milk frother and a Keurig-like machine capable of brewing coffee and espresso. Here are the new features:

• A larger cup of brewed coffee (now 10 fluid ounces)
• Quieter operation
• Adjustable drip tray that can accommodate a variety of mug sizes
• A larger water reservoir conveniently located on the side of the brewer.
• Quick heat up, in only 15 seconds

The brewer will sell for $149, and the frother goes for $59.

Is the Starbucks Verismo System better than Keurig?

I might turn my nose up at Starbucks, but I absolutely despise the coffee Keurig sputters out. Convenience be damned, the “coffee” that comes out of those pods is horrendous. It’s weak, lacks character and is rarely brewed at the right temp.

My wife was right, I’m a snob.

The Verismo System supposedly produces a much higher quality brew. We might try and review the device, but keep it on your radar if you want good coffee with convenience in mind.

Starbucks would be smart to offer samples in some of its bajillion locations.
