New MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, Touch ID orders open today! Here’s the price

Apple’s new MacBook Pro was announced on stage during the company’s Cupertino press event on Thursday. It’s a dang impressive laptop that ships in 13-inch and 15-inch sizes.

There are three total models, including a 13-inch MacBook Pro with regular function keys and an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB hard drive. Another 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch bar and Touch ID has a Core i5 processor, Iris graphics, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB hard drive. The 15-inch has Intel Core i7, 16GB of RAM, Radeon 450 graphics and a 256GB hard drive. They start at $1,499, $1,799 and $2,399 respectively.

Wondering what that buys you? Here’s a look:

The new MacBook Pro offers tons of new functions, including a dedicated OLED “Touch Bar” that exists above the keyboard. You can use the Touch Bar for all sorts of things, from scrubbing through photos or videos, accessing browser favorites, answer a FaceTime call, navigate through your calendar, control music playback, adjust system brightness or volume and more. The new MacBook Pro also has a built-in Touch ID fingerprint reader, which exists in the power button. There’s more.

The display is 67-percent brighter, has a 67-percent higher contrast ratio and displays 25-percent more colors. The 15-inch model supports a 6th-gen Intel Core i7 processor, AMD Radeon Pro graphics, up to 2TB of storage and a brand new thermal architecture that promises to keep the system “cooler and quieter.” The 13-inch model will ship with 6th-generation Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 chips and Intel Iris graphics.

The new MacBook Pro goes on sale today. The entry-level new MacBook Pro is available today, too, while the other two models ship in 2-3 weeks.
