Longtime Star Wars fan Zack Snyder has taken his fanboyism to the next level, releasing a trailer that combines the space opera with his latest movie, Batman v Superman. The results are a cornucopia of sights, sounds, and scenes, and a fun way to imagine what would happen if these two franchises ever collided.
As we suspected all along, Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne is the antagonist of the film, finding his anger pulling him to the Dark Side. At one point, rather than angrily contemplating his bat suit, he stares intently at the suit of Darth Vader. It totally makes sense. He even carries a double-sided lightsaber similar to the one used by Darth Maul.
In addition to plenty of Star Wars-themed visuals, the trailer also uses a number of famous lines to tell a short narrative. Rather than Alfred urging Batman to temper his anger, Yoda can be heard explaining the path of someone who follows the way of the Sith.
“Tell me, do you embrace the Dark Side?”
Snyder has been candid about his love for Star Wars, posting numerous mashups to his Twitter account. A few years ago, during Batman v Superman production, he posted a photo of Superman holding Darth Vader’s lightsaber with the hashtag #SuperJedi.
The mashup above was originally posted on Vero, a social media app that “allows you to behave online as you do offline.” Which is to say, if the video eventually gets pulled, you’ll know why.
