Snapchat still exists in some form of my mind as a service meant for sending quick nudes out into the ether. I never used it for that (I swear!), and I know it has developed into a much more feature-rich service with all sorts of stories, clips, stickers, chat and, heck, even Spectacles to show for it. The company is about to continue its very serious push into running original TV series content, Variety said this week.
Variety explained that Disney-ABC is on board to help Snapchat develop the first original series of video content that will be exclusive to Snapchat users. The latest, following similar partnerships with The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and The Voice, is an after-show for ABC’s The Bachelor,Variety said.
Don’t plan on kicking back on the couch and tuning in for 30 minutes or an hour at a time. This is Snapchat after all, so the episodes will be quick and digestible, about 3-5 minutes each, Variety explained. Not sure how addicted you can get to a TV show that’s so short, but the idea is fascinating nonetheless.
The content won’t be hard to find, either. Variety said the after show series will be available right in Snapchat’s Discover tab, where there’s also content from the aforementioned television partners, other users, brands and media partners who already publish short stories about news and events from around the globe.
Let me get some HBO, Snapchat!
I don’t watch The Bachelor, but I certainly hope Snapchat continues this trend. You have my word I’d tune in for an aftershow of Westworld or Game of Thrones. Someone call the execs at HBO, stat.
