With 2016 and its long list of great movies in the rear mirror, it’s a good time to look forward to which great movies will hit theatres. Through the Oscar hype and holiday stress, you can start seeing through the end-of-year madness into a massive list of must-see movies. So we decided to make a list of some of the movies to look forward to in 2017.
The list is chalk-full of movies that will most assuredly be blockbusters. It isn’t in any particular order, they’re just movies we’re really excited to see.
Here are 10 movies to look forward to in 2017.
Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman will the fourth movie in the DC Extended Universe and first superhero movie starring a female lead. Gal Gadot was introduced as Wonder Woman in Batman v. Superman, who proved to be one of the best parts of the movie, and now she is back with her own standalone movie. Judging from the trailer, it looks like a kickass origin story. The trailer gave us a look at the WWI era set pieces and some idea of why Wonder Woman leaves the Amazonian people to save humans, but it still looks like a story that will be intriguing and just might be the first good movie in the DCEU.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Star Lord and the gang are returning in 2017 for the highly anticipated sequel to 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The first movie turned out to be an dark horse blockbuster, and the second one hopes to built on all that success and goodwill. The first trailer for the movie was release a few weeks ago and it was filled with all the action and Baby Groot cuteness you can ask for. This sequel should introduce the Guardians to the other Marvel heroes as well as they begin setting up their appearance in Avengers: Infinity War.

Beauty and the Beast
Disney’s recent trend of adapting known animation commodities into live action movies continues in 2017 with Beauty and the Beast. Emma Watson’s turn as Belle is churning out fever pitch hype, including a record-breaking trailer last month. This is one of Disney’s most beloved animated movies, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility to see this live action adaptation to follow a similar performance as this year’s The Jungle Book, which grossed nearly a $1 billion worldwide and garnered glowing reviews.

Logan
Hugh Jackman’s last appearance as the ferocious Wolverine is taking a turn for the gritty with Logan. This will conclude the standalone Wolverine trilogy. After seeing the success Deadpool had, Logan decided to follow the same formula and turned into an R-rated movie that will greatly differ from past X-Men movies, and I can’t wait. If the trailer is any indication, this won’t be your run-of-the-mill super hero movie. This will be a darker interpretation of the character, one that can be found in the comics but was omitted from earlier X-Men films due to its mature content. But Deadpool and we are rewarded with a new Wolverine that is hopefully much different than the one in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Kong: Skull Island
It’s been just over ten years since we last got a King Kong movie, but we’re getting another one and this one looks really intriguing. The first full trailer introduced us to Kong, the king of a foreign land that is rudely interrupted by humans in their search for treasures. But there is much more to the story than meets the eye, as more than one evil entity lives on this island, and Kong is the only one who can stop them.

Spider-Man: Homecoming
Spider-Man: Homecoming is the third Spider-Man reboot in less than ten years, and that has eroded some of the shine the character once had. But now that it’s in Marvel’s hands, it looks like Spidey is on the right track again. With fresh-faced Tom Holland as the titular character, this new Spider-Man looks more grounded than previous versions and it has Iron Man as another selling point. On top of that, Michael Keaton looks like a proper villain that we haven’t seen since Alfred Molina donned the Doctor Octopus tentacles. Count me in the camp that is excited for Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The Lego Batman Movie
“It must be great to be Batman.” That’s how the latest Lego Batman Movie trailer starts. You might think this as a fastidious statement, but Will Arnett’s take on Batman is as irreverent as they come, and he looks awesome. This isn’t the Batman from The Dark Knight or even Tim Burton’s version, but a comedic take that the live action films are too afraid to explore, thus giving Arnett plenty of ammunition to take the character to new levels we’ve never seen.

Thor Ragnarok
We know next to nothing about plot of this movie other than the Hulk is in it and may have some elements of the storyline of Planet Hulk. Other than that, your guess as to what this movie will be about is as good as mine. But if they include even a fraction of the comedy in the Thor short about why he wasn’t in Captain America: Civil War, it’ll be worth the four-year wait after Thor: The Dark World. Plus, exploring a standalone Hulk storyline and taking Thor away from Asgard and Earth will add new depth to these characters that hasn’t been delved into.

Justice League
The road to Justice League has been a rocky one, but Zack Snyder’s grand vision for the DCEU will hit theatres next November. This movie has arguably most to lose out of any movie on this list. Batman and Wonder Woman both impressed in Batman v. Superman, the set-up to this film, but everything else disappointed, for the most part. Few details are known about this movie other than Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg are in the movie with Steppenwolf being the antagonist.

Star Wars Episode VIII
Following on the success of The Force Awakens and Rogue One, Star Wars Episode VIII will be a much different movie that what we’ve seen from the most recent Star Wars films. Director Rian Johnson, will have the chance to developed the characters that J.J. Abrams masterfully introduced. Little details are known about this movie, but should explore more elements about Rey, Kylo Ren and the Jedi.
