There have been a lot of unconfirmed reports about Thor: Ragnarok, including speculation about a showdown between Thor and Hulk. Now, thanks to an official synopsis from Marvel, we finally know what to expect from the upcoming film, which will feature Thor without his trusty hammer.

In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty gammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his home world and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadl gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avengers—the incredible Hulk!
We already knew there would be gladiatorial action; at Comic-Con last year, we saw Hulk’s armor at Marvel’s booth, pretty much confirming the movie would lean heavily on the Planet Hulk storyline from the comics.
What’s interesting about the plot synopsis is the information about Thor losing his hammer, a rumor we heard last year. Apparently, Thor will be cast out by Hela (Cate Blanchett) to the other side of the universe, where he’s imprisoned by the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum).
There, he will participate in gladiatorial matches, moving up the ranks until he finally faces off against Hulk, who is fixed with an obedience disk.
How does Hulk get to space?
The big confirmation here is the revelation that Hulk will be in space, as expected, but it’s unclear how he gets there. There have been rumors claiming Loki (Tom Hiddleston) may be responsible for that.
In addition to Marvel unveiling the movie’s synopsis, the studio also released a behind-the-scenes photo, although it doesn’t tell us much. Whatever it is director Taika Waititi is telling Chris Hemsworth, he’s very much listening with intent.
