The B8 Audi A4 Avant sold in America from 2008-2012 was the last true Audi wagon to make it our shores before it got a lift, some cladding and was renamed the Allroad. These cars still look incredibly good and prices have now dropped to fairly affordable levels.
There was a time when I was seriously considering a purchase of one these longroofs and would spend hours window shopping listings for the perfect rare specimen, with the sport package and RS4 style wheels.

Not long ago these Avants commanded a serious premium over their sedan counterparts. I gave up my search after determining that, despite their sexy lines and utility, I just wasn’t ready for the two pedal lifestyle. The one major downside to the B8 Avant was that it was only ever available with an automatic transmission, unlike the sedan that could be had with a six-speed manual.
While the regular A4 Avant wasn’t nearly as fast as the ultra desirable S4, it was equipped the Volkswagen group’s 2.0 liter turbocharged four that cranked out a respectable 211 HP and 258 lb-ft of torque, which is about the same output of the current GTI. The A4 Avant could sprint to 60 in about 6.5 seconds, and the motor was mounted longitudinally to send 60 percent of torque to the rear wheels through Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
Of course, as time passes, depreciation continues to take its toll and now these excellent wagons can be had with reasonable miles well under the $20,000 mark.
Naturally, there are some folks who feel their unicorns should fetch a bit more especially if they have a rare paint and options set. This one is apparently only one of two Avants painted in the excellent Nogaro Blue.
Granted picking up one of these Avants means rolling the dice a bit on reliability, but since when did that stop any of us wagon nutjobs from enjoying some longroof goodness. Live your life—the wagon life.
