Another NFL pass may have hit something hanging above the field causing an imcompletion, and seemingly nobody on the field noticed.
The latest incident came during the “Monday Night Football” game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers. During the second quarter, Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton tried to hit wide receiver A.J. Green deep down the left sideline, but the pass landed woefully short.
Was this just one of the worst passes of Dalton’s career, or did something cause it to start spinning like a helicopter mid-flight?
Many people in social media immediately started wonder if the pass had hit a Skycam wire. This would not be the first time as a Derek Carr pass during the 2016 season also appeared to hit either the Skycam or wires supporting the camera that provides views from above the field.
Here is what the pass looks like slowed down. The ball appears to come out of Dalton’s hand normally, but then the ball seems to start tumbling around the Bengals’ 47-yard line, just as the ball is passing in front of the wall separating the Steelers players and the fans.
There is still nothing conclusive in the video. In addition, in this case, the outcome of the play was not impacted as a facemask foul was called on the Bengals. But the play certainly raises an eyebrow about how wires might impact a play in the NFL.
Here is a look from behind the Bengals’ offense immediately after the play.
You can can see wires above the field. It is impossible to tell how close or far away they are, but the one on the left is at least in the direction of where the pass was thrown.

Another interesting point about the view above is that it is from the Skycam! So it is not clear how those wires are associated with the Skycam, if at all.
