Cristiano Ronaldo wants to retire at Real Madrid.

The Portuguese striker made an official statement just days after reportedly informing lawyers to help lower the £879 million exit clause in his contract, which could attract interest from other clubs, as reported by The Sun.

But after playing a starring role in Real’s 1-0 victory over Gremio in the FIFA Club World Cup final on Saturday, Ronaldo expressed his intention to finish his career with the La Liga giants.

“I would like to retire at Real Madrid if it is possible,” the 32-year-old told the media at a post-match press conference in Dubai.

Real manager Zinedine Zidane added that Madrid is Ronaldo’s home. ‘”It is fundamental for us that Ronaldo stays until the very end,” Zidane told the press. “This is his home. I hope he stays here until the end, until the day he retires. We all know what he can do out on the pitch.”

“If it is possible, yes.”

Ronaldo’s statement is not the only headline he created as he also scored the only goal in Real’s win over Gremio.

In the 53rd minute of the final in Abu Dhabi, Ronaldo hovered over a free kick from 25 yards. He then fired a low strike through the wall and into the goal, executing what the matchday commentator called a “perfect finish.”

The victory guaranteed a fifth title of 2017 for Real, as it successfully retained the Club World Cup.
