Financial technology, or fintech, has become a huge industry over the last decade, with new companies springing up doing everything from online lending to high-frequency trading technology or next-generation credit scoring software.
CB Insights, which tracks the venture capital industry, recently provided a list of what it believes are all the fintech unicorns in the world — venture capital-backed, private businesses worth over $1 billion.
The company shared the list of 26 fintech unicorns as part of its report on 2018 first quarter funding in fintech globally. (CB Insights’ list didn’t include Revolut but we have added it to the list as the company reached unicorn status after CB Insights had published its list.)
CB Insight only focused on VC-backed businesses, not companies funded solely by angels, private equity firms or any debt, secondary or line of credit transactions.
Business Insider combined CB Insight’s data with public information on the Crunchbase database to provide a snapshot of the most valuable fintech businesses in the world right now.
