Here’s What Tire, Suspension and Brake Upgrades Can Do For The Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Model 3 already has a performance version on the way, but if you don’t want to wait around for that, you can get a lot more out of the electric car just from upgrading the tires, brakes and suspension.

Speed Academy on YouTube got to track test a Tesla Model 3 with modifications from Mountain Pass Performance in their latest video:

Mountain Pass Performance upgraded the brake with new pads and fluid, coilovers, rear suspension arms, Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R tires, and also managed to scale back the intrusiveness of Tesla’s stability control system without affecting ABS.

The results are fairly impressive, with just the wheel and tire change dropping the lap time from 1:29.0 to 1:24.3, and with all of the modifications, the lap time cut down to 1:21.7, just over second seconds quicker than the stock car.

It’s very likely, as they point out in the video, that a square tire alignment would help with grip in the corners and make the lap time even quicker, and it seems like Mountain Pass Performance will test camber adjustment in the future as well.

The video ends with Sasha confidently claiming they could tune the car to set a time under 1:20.0, but the results they got are already impressive enough. It’s testament to Teslas EV chassis engineering that the car can perform this good, but it also shows how its underselling the Model 3’s full capability.

But which car wouldn’t benefit from a slew of upgrades, anyway?
