There’s something so comforting in life when the day isn’t going your way and you slump down in a bathroom stall, defeated, only to be uplifted by layers upon layers of motivational quotes—instead of insults or rumors from a decade ago—written on its walls. This 1982 Porsche 911 SC is the car equivalent of that.
Also, chill. Loosen up. Stop breathing heavily while your left eye twitches. The orange color peels off, so people aren’t scribbling directly on the car’s paint.
Anyway, Denver outlet ABC 7 did a story recently on a Twin Lakes, Colorado local named Riley Tinkham, who, according to the story, inherited the 911 when his father died of complications from cancer in 2016. The car sat in a garage for several years, so ABC 7 reports that Tinkham fixed it up and parked it in front of his house over the summer. He put a couple of inspirational quotes in big letters on either side of the car, and it didn’t take long for others to join in.
From ABC 7:
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
He said the second quote is from Billy Cox, a motivational speaker.
“Life will only change when you become more committed to your dreams than your comfort zone.” […]
After seeing the quotes, Tinkham’s friend, Bob Dalzell, who operates a coffee shop on wheels called Percolated Peaks, suggested that he leave a magic marker out for others to add their own inspiration.

The 911 has an Instagram account showing off the quotes people have written on it over the past few months, and there’s this nice video story ABC 7 did on Tinkham’s relationship with the car since his father’s death and how people react to all of the inspirational messages written on it:
When life gets you down and you can’t manage to find a bathroom stall with motivational quotes written all over it (they exist!), remember that this Porsche 911 SC exists. And remember that, even for a moment, people truly seem to be at their purest of heart when writing on it—sharing, for who knows how many others they’ll probably never meet, a quote that once helped them in life.

If that doesn’t make your heart feel a little more full and make your day a little brighter, well, we’ll just have to find you some more inspirational quotes.
