This week started off with a bang, with Disney giving fans a very brief sneak peek at Star Wars: Episode VIII. Not to be outdone, HBO released a trailer for Game of Thrones season 6, while Netflix released more footage of Daredevil season 2. And that was just the start.
Our Deadpool review went up, new 10 Cloverfield Lane footage was unveiled, and an image from the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was shared by director James Gunn. See? I told you this week was good. You can see all of the stories you might have missed below, along with some of the week’s rumors and announcements we didn’t get around to posting.
Julianne Moore in Kingsman 2
The Hollywood Reporter says Julianne Moore has been picked to play the villain in Kingsman 2. She’ll take over bad guy duty from Samuel L. Jackson, who tried taking over the world in the first film. Surprisingly, Colin Firth isn’t scheduled to feature in the sequel, which is a bummer because he was the best part. [HollywoodReporter]
Bumblebee to get his Transformers own spinoff
We already know Paramount Pictures wants to release new Transformers movies back-to-back-to-back starting next year, and it sounds like one of those will be a “low budget” Bumblebee spinoff. Paramount Pictures CEO Brad Grey said the studio is going to begin filming right after next year’s Transformers is released. [HollywoodReporter]
Ghostbusters to feature a familiar villain?
New toys for the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot were unveiled at Toy Fair 2016, revealing a very familiar character from the Ghostbusters universe. Toys are never indicative of what the final movie will include, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Mr. Marshmallow Man will make an appearance. [Latino-Review]
God’s Particle gets a release date
An interesting sci-fi project has been scheduled for a Feb. 24, 2017 release. Produced by J.J. Abrams, God’s Particle will tell the story of American astronauts on a space station who make a startling discovery amidst a battle for survival. [HollywoodReporter]
Nick Fury in Thor 3?
With only two films remaining on his contract, fans have been wondering when we’ll next see Sam Jackson appear onscreen. We already know he’s not in Captain America: Civil War, so could Marvel be saving him for Avengers: Infinity War? Apparently not, as new reports suggest he’ll be in Thor 3. And, oh, he’s looking to extend his contract, which means Mr. Fury might be in more Marvel films after all. [Latino-Review]
