Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has already been given a PG-13 rating by the MPAA, but there’s an alternate version on the way that’s been rated R. When the film hits Blu-ray months from now, the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition will feature a cut that’s more violent than the one audiences will see in March.
It’s unclear how much Deadpool affected the special edition, but you have to figure the movie’s success had some role to play, however minor. Ever since Deadpool hit theaters, there’s been a swath of reports suggesting other comic-based films will follow in the movie’s foul-mouth footsteps. As long as these movies aren’t forcing the issue, I don’t think audiences will mind.
From what we’ve seen of Batman v Superman thus far, it certainly looks like the movie will be plenty violent, especially with scenes involving Batman taking out bad guys. Frankly, I’m very much looking forward to seeing Batman fight crime, and not necessarily take on Superman. Maybe that’s just me, but we could do with more realism; mortal versus other less capable mortals. Sounds like a good time.
Long story short, if the PG-13 version that hits theaters on March 25 feels too tame for your taste, you’ll have an R-rated cut to look forward to when the movie is available to purchase.
