When my kids were in grade school, during Easter vacation, we’d drive to their grandparents place in Florida. Pick the kids up from school on Friday afternoon and drive to DC that night. the next morning, we’d take in one of tourist site in Washington. Cherry blossoms, Lincoln Memorial, etc. Then, we’d drive on to Savannah GA and stay there Saturday night. The hotel we stayed in there had a nice pool. Sunday, it would be about another eight hours driving to grandma’s.
The kids looked forward to getting there, and what I really liked about it is we drove into springtime. Heading north at the end of the trip wasn’t as nice. We drove back into the cold weather of very early spring, and the kids knew they weren’t going to have their grandparents at the end. So, sometimes we’d make the trip home in two days instead of three.
