Brex hires Goldman Sachs alum as its new chief of staff for engineering as the fight for tech talent heats up

Fintechs are increasingly seeing New York as a talent hub, looking to current and would-be Wall Street workers as possible hires. And there’s no shortage of candidates open to an industry switch.

San Francisco-based Brex is one such fintech, hiring Goldman Sachs alum Kome Emuh as its chief of staff for engineering in July, Insider has learned.

Emuh was most recently a vice president at Goldman, serving as COO of global markets operations and engineering based in New York, according to her LinkedIn profile. She also served as chief of staff for bank’s head of European technology in London.

Prior to Goldman, Emuh worked as chief of staff to the global head of operations at JPMorgan in London.

A spokesperson for Brex did not return a request for comment. Emuh did not return a request for comment.

Brex has several dozen employees with Wall Street experience, including at firms like Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and Morgan Stanley, according to LinkedIn.

Its competitors, too, are eyeing Wall Street talent. Ramphired a few key execs from Goldman Sachs’ Marcus business.

Investors are also increasingly bullish on New York’s fintech scene. Andreessen Horowitz recently hired former Goldman exec David Haber as a general partner focused on fintech. Haber is the firm’s first check-writer based in New York.
