These full-sized late ‘70s GMs sure were roomy, but they weren’t terribly clever about packaging. I mean, as big as they were, they didn’t have to be. But some details, like—if you look in that diagram above the Olds you can see it—how the spare was way up against the rear seatback in the trunk, were just really poorly thought out.

Even if the trunk was empty you’d have to flop around in there like a Sea World dolphin just to reach it. I’ve seen it happen. It’s not pretty.
