Quantum Break’s last delay was Microsoft’s decision

Sometimes you need a few extra months to finish a game. Other times, a few extra months are thrust upon you, apparently, as was the case with Quantum Break.

Remedy’s latest was set to release last fall alongside Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Forza Motorsport 6, and a whole pile of third party releases before being pushed into 2016.

“Funnily enough the delay came from Microsoft’s end,” said creative director Sam Lake in an interview with MCVUK.

“It was looking at its portfolio of upcoming games and were feeling that it would be foolish to have all of these bigger games come out at the same time, essentially fighting among themselves for the audience. So it wanted to stagger them out,” he explained.

But, hey – more time is more time, as the game’s protagonist Jack Joyce learns. Remedy was only too happy to take the extra time and use it wisely.

“Certainly we were happy to take the extra time and really happy to have that extra time as these are really challenging, complicated projects always. In a big game like this, the polish phase is absolutely essential. We were more than happy to take the extra time. That mainly resulted in much a higher level of polish and iteration and fine-tuning of the experience.”

Check out our review to see if that extra time was necessary. Quantum Break hits PC and Xbox One on April 5.
