As if it needs to be said, Final Fantasy is still a very popular franchise with a loyal fanbase rising from the ashes like a Phoenix after last week’s excellent Uncovered event. One of the big announcements at the show was a Final Fantasy XV Ultimate Collector’s Edition that Square Enix put up live and immediately sold out following the show.
Again, like I said, it’s a popular series, and fans are climbing on board with the gorgeous upcoming game. Director Hajime Tabata is happy that the series has found a foothold in the community, though he is somewhat disappointed that Square Enix has been caught off guard with the number of fans wanting these Ultimate Collector’s Editions. Many have been upset they weren’t able to secure a copy on time, and Tabata has heard them.
Of course, a small percentage of those people are scalpers who already have theirs listed on eBay at three to four times the normal cost, something Tabata is not cool with.
In an open letter to fans on Twitter, Tabata says that he will see what he can do with more copies and threatens hell-fire on these scalpers at the same time.
Hi, it’s Tabata. My sincere thanks to everyone who watched UNCOVERED FFXV. I know that the venue was really hyped, but I hear that in Japan the excitement was even more amped-up because of the its combination with the long TV commercial. As well, the thanks a million for all the Platinum Demo downloads too!
By the way, I heard that the preorders swarmed in for the ULTIMATE COLLECTORS EDITION, and as a result, a lot of people couldn’t place their orders. I’m really sorry about that and we’re currently investigating if there are ways we can somehow increase production. I will keep you updated when there’s any progress!
As well, the people placing abnormal orders that suggest possible purchases for the purpose of reselling, will be told that they will be dealt with severely in conformity with the agreement. We ask for your continued support of FFXV!
Final Fantasy XV launches for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Sept. 30.
