LG G5 Bang & Olufsen Hi-Fi audio module doesn’t have a U.S. release date

The LG G5 has a single feature that helps it stand out against the competition: swappable modules called “Friends” that allow end-users to add additional functionality to the handset. LG has only announced two such accessories, including a camera module and a secondary Hi-Fi audio module made by Bang & Olufsen. The latter still doesn’t have a U.S. release date, which means the G5 is now less compelling to U.S. consumers.

Android Authority noticed that LG recently pulled the Bang & Olufsen module from the LG website that discusses “LG Friends.” The site now only lists the LG 360 VR headset, the CAM Plus camera module, the LG 360 CAM and a few other accessories, most of which don’t require the unique swappable function offered by the Hi-Fi module. That means, technically, there’s now only one unique module that works with the LG G5’s primary function. Doesn’t seem as exotic anymore.

So, what gives?

“At this time, we don’t have an availability date set for the Hi-Fi DAC, and so don’t have timing to share,” LG told Android Authority. “As soon as we have an update, we will follow up.” There’s no real explanation for why it’s not ready for launch in the U.S. – could be any number of things, including quality control, pricing arguments or bugs with U.S. units.
