  • From the bathroom sink to the Olympics rink, Canadian figure skater Meagan Duhamel had an eventful Wednesday.
  • Just hours before Duhamel was due to compete, she dropped her phone into an unflushed toilet.
  • But the accident did not faze her as she produced a medal winning performance.

An Olympic athlete dropped her phone in a non-flushed toilet just hours before she was due to contest a figure skating event at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Meagan Duhamel had already won gold in the team event at the Gangneung Ice Arena in South Korea on Monday but was due to return to the rink for a pairs event on Wednesday.

However, her preperations involved a blunder on her way to the rink.

She tweeted: “I’m heading to the rink to compete at the #olympics and I just dropped my phone into a non-flushed toilet bowl.

“That’s right. No better way to humble me before the biggest skate of my life,” she added.

The gaffe was not enough to put Duhamel off her stride as, alongside partner Eric Radford, she skated to a bronze medal winning performance at the rink in Gangneung.

“I feel so complete right now,” Duhamel said after the event, according to Reuters. “I feel like I’m going to be happy for the rest of my life.”

Phone-dropping isn’t the only reason Duhamel is getting attention for what she does off the ice. Away from winning medals, she also rescues South Korean dogs who are headed towards slaughter within the dog meat trade.
