Jaguar is looking into why one of its new all-electric I-Pace SUVs caught on fire in the Netherlands last week while it was parked in a driveway, reports Electrek. While other EVs have had high-profile issues with overheating and fires, it’s the first known one involving Jag’s new electric.
The fire broke out last Friday in the town of Rumpt, according to Electrek. At this point, the cause remains unknown.
Jaguar offered an interesting take on what might’ve transpired, calling it a “thermal incident.” The automaker confirmed Monday to The Verge reporter Sean O’Kane that an investigation is underway:

The British automaker told Electrek that it’d taken possession of the vehicle, and have since launched an investigation with local authorities. Pictures published by the German website Autobahn show the vehicle’s front-end appears to have suffered the most damage.
Electric vehicle fires have caught the attention of U.S. regulators time and again. As EVs remain relatively new, the cause of abrupt fires has generated significant interest for authorities and local officials across the U.S. In one case earlier this year, a Tesla Model X battery reignited days after it was involved in a fatal crash.

The I-Pace has been driving sales, at least for now, at Jaguar. Last month, the SUV reportedly comprised 10 percent of all the automaker’s sales in November.
