Fitbit announced a new partnership with Amazon today, bringing its fitness tracking data to the Echo. Now you can ask Alexa how much you walked each day and find out how active (or lazy) you are with a quick voice command.
Just say, “Alexa, ask Fitbit how I’m doing today,” and Amazon’s talking cylinder will respond with your latest step count. You can also ask for your steps from any day in the past week, and even find out how well you slept if you wear your Fitbit to bed.
The two companies also worked to include a few clever responses. So, for example, if you ask for your daily step count early in the morning, Alexa will say something like “you’ve got to start somewhere,” or “try to take a walk today, but don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.”
According to Fitbit exec Tim Roberts, the company is just getting started. “As we look at how this integration could evolve in the future, there is an endless world of possibilities from fitness coaching and nutrition tips, to guidance before bedtime to help you get a more restful night’s sleep,” he said.
Fitbit owners can add the new skill to their Echo devices now, just don’t get upset if Alexa inadvertently reveals how lazy you really are in front of your friends or family.
