Amazon is launching a new anime streaming service. Dubbed “Anime Strike,” it will become the retail giant’s first branded subscription channel, offering more than 1,000 episodes and movies ranging from classic titles to shows current broadcast shows.
Anime Strike is available in the U.S. now, priced at $4.99 a month after a 7-day free trial. Variety reports that current titles include The Great Passage, Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga, and older favorites like Paprika and Tokyo Godfathers.
Some of the most recent shows, like Scum’s Wish, will be available for streaming the same day the latest episode is broadcast in Japan. Amazon says content will be refreshed weekly so that subscribers always have something new to enjoy.
“With anime in particular, there’s a strong, passionate audience that is underserved by traditional pay TV,” said Michael Paull, Amazon’s VP of digital video and head of Amazon Channels worldwide.
“We tend to focus on our customers and their needs, and our big difference is that we’re using the data we have as Amazon to know the type of programming that would excite our audience.”
A long list of the shows Amazon has secured are under exclusive deals, so you won’t find them on any other streaming service in the U.S. The company is also planning to add more branded subscription channels in the coming months, but Paull won’t reveal the genres yet.
Just like other Amazon Channels, you’ll need a Prime membership to enjoy Anime Strike.
