A massive explosion reportedly rocked the area near Cairo International Airport on Thursday evening. Security sources told Reuters that the blast appeared to have taken place at a fuel-storage facility.
Reuters reported that flight activity at Cairo’s airport has been suspended. However, some local residents say that flight operations have not been halted, and air-traffic-tracking website FlightRadar24 reports that Cairo’s airport is still operating.
The explosion reportedly took place just before 11 p.m. local time.
Images posted to social media show a large funnel of smoke rising above the Cairo skyline. There is no information available on possible injuries or fatalities.
