Apple’s first original TV show will star Dr. Dre

Apple’s first original TV show will star rap legend Dr. Dre. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show will be called Vital Signs, and be a scripted series that’s semi-autobiographical, “with each episode focusing on a different emotion and how Dre’s character deals with it,” the publication wrote. Other cast members include Sam Rockwell (Moon) and Mo McCrae (Murder in the First).

“While technically a half-hour, the show is not a comedy,” The Hollywood Reporter said. “Instead, it is described as a dark drama with no shortage of violence and sex.”

One episode filming next week will apparently feature an “extended orgy scene,” according to sources.

There have been multiple rumors claiming Apple was looking to create its own original content, and it sounds like it will start with a pretty heavy show. Dr. Dre isn’t known for his acting prowess, though he is a prominent figure among the Apple ranks, having co-founded Beats before being purchased by the Cupertino company.

It’s unclear when Vital Signs will be available, but when it does release, it’ll launch all at once, which is a popular way to distribute content among streaming services. “Apple is said to be very bullish on the project,” The Hollywood Reporter said.

If Apple is indeed working on a show, it will likely be the beginning of a larger commitment to original content.
