This weekend is Audi Sport Team Joest’s last race in the World Endurance Championship’s top LMP1 class. To commemorate the occasion, they put all the ways they’ve dominated on the R18’s center fin. Now Audi has one more feat for the list: Lucas di Grassi’s new lap record of the Bahrain International Circuit.

Di Grassi laid down a ridiculously quick lap time of 1:38.828 behind the wheel of the No. 8 Audi R18, not just claiming pole position for Audi’s final race, but crushing the track record. He qualified with teammate Oliver Jarvis, giving Jarvis his first-ever pole position with the Audi LMP1 team.

Jarvis and di Grassi had an average qualifying time was a 1:39.207—a mere 0.264 seconds ahead of the No. 1 Porsche 919. The No. 1 Porsche also has a face we won’t see after this season: driver Mark Webber, who is retiring after this race.

Audi’s other car, the No. 7, qualified fourth. Full qualifying results for tomorrow morning’s 6 Hours of Bahrain can be found here. The race starts tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. Eastern. I’m not sure who I’m rooting for more to get one last win this weekend: Audi or Webber.
