When you tell Baby Groot not to press a “death button,” all he’ll want to do is press that button. It’s a hard lesson Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) has to learn. If only he had some tape so as not to tempt the mischievous little tree.
The newest Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 teaser from Marvel provides a wonderful look at some of the shenanigans the Guardians will get into next year: monster fights, space battles, group therapy sessions. But, of course, it’s Baby Groot that steals the show. His wittle voice is too cute and he looks absolutely adorable.
In addition to an extended look at Groot as a tiny baby tree, the teaser also give us our first look at Pom Klementieff’s Mantis, who apparently has the power to learn a person’s secrets just by touching them. Much to Star-Lord’s chagrin—and Drax’s amusement—she reveals a deep secret about his feelings toward Gamora.
While the footage is funny, it’s also absolutely gorgeous. Those shots of the Guardians taking on the Abilisk, a monster we got our first glimpse of in concept art, looks incredible. It’s frightening but also goofy, fitting perfectly with the quirky world inhabited by the Guardians.
You have to guess there’s a very high probability Groot will push that button. I mean, he runs away holding the atomic bomb while shouting, “I am Groot!” Only bad—but very funny—things can happen after that. I can’t wait to see how it unfolds.
