Between having to drive big, automatic cop cars all the time, and being party-poopers who pull us over just when we think we’re starting to have fun, cops may sometimes seem like the anti-gearhead. But that’s so wrong, and officer Matt from Colorado is proof.
Even if law enforcement officers drive big boring land yachts and write pricey speeding tickets, quite a few of them are genuine car-nuts, as I found out when I was pulled over in my Jeep J10 project.
Take Matt from Colorado. He’s not only a cop, but he was also in the Army reserves, and he’s been wrenching on cars since he was a young teenager. He’s a genuine badass. And so is his car:

Matt started with muscle cars, but quickly got into the Japanese import scene, eventually building a drop-dead gorgeous 500-ish horsepower 1991 Dodge Stealth RT twin-turbo.

But these days, he’s got a 1989 R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R with R34 wheels, an R34 carbon fiber hood, a carbon fiber trunk lid, and a giant spoiler. It’s perfect.
For now, the car makes 307 horsepower at the wheels, but officer Matt says he plans to get that number into the 500 horsepower region. Oh, and he daily drives the thing when the weather is good. Officer Matt, you are a true inspiration.
I have to wonder, though, how he resists the temptation to exceed the speed limit. In that car, I’m not sure I’d be able to contain myself. And by “I’m not sure,” I really mean “there’s no way in hell.”
