If there’s one huge difference between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Cinematic Universe, it’s that the DCU is tonally much more somber and dark. In Man of Steel, Superman found the cruelty of humanity difficult to assimilate to and in Batman v Superman, the Dark Knight basically wants to kill Superman. That’s in stark contrast to a movie like Ant-Man, which is much peppier and light-hearted.
According to Chris Terrio, writer of Batman v Superman, that’s going to change when Justice League Part One comes out.
“I expect Justice League will be tonally not quite as dark as Batman v Superman,” Terrio said. “From that point of view, I felt compelled to go back and try to lift us and myself into a different tonal place because I think when you write a darker film, sometimes you want to redeem it all a bit.”
Terrio compared the tone of Batman v Superman to that of the Empire Strikes Back, which was much darker than A New Hope.
“The middle film tends to be the darkest one. I do think from Man of Steel through Justice League, it is one saga really,” Terrio said.
So if you’re not really a huge fan of how dark—literally and figuratively—Batman v Superman is, we can expect a shift when Justice League Part One hits on Nov. 17, 2017. You can read more of Terrio’s thoughts on Batman v Superman at the source link below.
