Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and devilishly cool Director Koji Igarashi made a highly anticipated appearance over at the game’s official Kickstarter page this weekend. The purpose? To show off the game in action for the first time!
Granted, the footage is still very early. We’re used to the Miriam character model by now thanks to Igarashi using it to poll for shader options, but the foreground and background details have not yet been implemented in this version. Instead, all we see is the level layout, which Igarashi says is used to judge scale, place enemies, and make sure the size fits.
In fact, he even seems a a little uneasy showing off the footage in such an early state, as no doubt, he never employed such a practice while working on Castlevania games at Konami.
“It’s actually very rare to be able to see this, but I wanted to share it with my Kickstarter backers.”
So far, the game is doing exactly what it needs to be doing: channeling Symphony of the Night and the handheld Castlevania games. Miriam seems a little stiff in motion, and I think Igarashi needs to give Bloodstained an original twist to help it stand out on its own. However, I like what I see so far from Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
It is scheduled for a March 2017 release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, PS Vita, and PC.
