Can you guess Japan’s Top 10 most highly anticipated games?

Japan’s most notable video game publication, Famitsu, issues weekly reports on the games its audience most wants to play. These are the hardcore gamers, the ones who fill out forms and the ones who probably think a lot more along the lines of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest than they do Puzzle & Dragons.

To put it bluntly, these are not the people who casually play video games on their smartphones while commuting to work nor the kids who play Yo-kai Watch at the local playground together. Again, these are the hardcore gamers, and these are the games they most want to play, via Kotaku.

Just a hint. if you pick entirely JRPGs, you’re not going to be wrong.

  1. Final Fantasy XV (PS4)
  2. Dragon Quest XI (3DS)
  3. Persona 5 (PS4)
  4. Dragon Quest XI (PS4)
  5. Final Fantasy VII Remake (PS4)
  6. Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 (3DS)
  7. Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness (PS4)
  8. Dragon Quest Heroes II (PS4)
  9. Persona 5 (PS3)
  10. Kingdom Hearts III (PS4)

Not a lot of shockers here. I’m not in the least bit surprised that Japanese gamers would rather play Dragon Quest XI on the Nintendo 3DS rather than the PlayStation 4. However, listing Persona 5 twice seems a bit odd because, unlike the two versions of Dragon Quest XI, they are the exact same.

Other major releases come in with Ace Attorney 6 at number 11, Yakuza 6 in the number 15 spot followed closely by The Legend of Zelda Wii U game at number 16. Dark Souls III also stumbles in at the number 18 spot, and The Last Guardian clocks shockingly low all the way down at number 28. I have a feeling that despite the universal praise that game s going to get, it’s going to be a huge flop.

I need to give a pat on the back to SaGa Scarlet Grace for ranking at number 19 as well, because I couldn’t be more thrilled that the series has a pulse.

So yeah, it’s not a very shocking list out of Japan, but I feel right at home looking at it. I can’t wait for these games either.
