Not long after Batman v Superman hit theaters, Warner Bros. revealed there would be an extended cut of the film—one that would be rated R no less. Now, ahead of the movie’s home release, a trailer for the “ultimate edition” has hit and it’s filled with a ton of new footage.
In addition to some longer sequences, the trailer gives us a look at Jena Malone’s mysterious character, who was eventually cut from the film. Here’s what director Zack Snyder said about the extended cut, viaCollider:
There’s a little bit of action, there’s a little bit of violence that we trimmed out for the MPAA that we put back. The Batman warehouse rescue, there’s a couple shots of Doomsday that were too intense. Then there’s a little bit longer ending, sort of the ending sequence, and the opening of the movie, the North Africa sequence is really much different.
The extended cut probably won’t sway the legions of people who strongly disliked the movie. However, I’m curious to see whether the longer version messes with the movie’s tone and pacing (probably not). Check out the trailer above to see for yourself. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition hits digital on June 28, with the Blu-ray coming July 19.
