There’s a lot going on in the new Gambino video, enough that “oh hey look at the cars” isn’t the best take. But look, I can’t help myself. Cars. They’re what I see. And for everything, the cars in “This Is America” really are excellent.
It’s two things about them: 1) that they’re excellent examples of, among other things, late ‘70s/early ‘80s Japanese family cars that I happen to adore, like that early 1980s Corolla wagon with a JDM-spec headlight swap. I see you. Oh, and 2) it’s very apt to say “this is America” and feature not some glitzy dreamworld imagination of giant engine muscle cars but actually a second-generation Honda Accord. This is the reality of it all.
