Citigroup has appointed a new senior executive in its Institutional Clients Group to oversee its fusion and growth of its digital and investing strategies.
Paco Ybarra, CEO of Citi ICG, and Stuart Riley, global head of ICG technology and operations at Citi, announced in a memo Thursday that Sandeep Arora had been promoted to ICG head of digital and ICG chief investment officer, according to a memo seen by Insider.
A Citigroup spokeswoman confirmed the contents of the memo.
“Sandeep will build on his vast experience driving innovation, most recently managing the Markets & Securities Services FinTech investment portfolio and leading the project to develop an end-to-end strategy and execution for ICG electronic platforms,” Ybarra and Riley wrote in the memo.
The Financial News was first to report the move.
As part of the role, Arora will be responsible for increasing the adoption of Citi’s digital offerings and improving the client experience in a division that produced $44 billion in revenues in 2020, catering to thousands of large corporations and government organizations around the world.
He’ll also wield influence over the division’s investment decisions, chairing the investment committees and voting on the investment committees for all ICG portfolios, according to the memo.
“As the ICG Chief Investment Officer, Sandeep will be empowered to drive consistency and best practices in investment decisions, investment approach and portfolio management, working with the investment teams embedded in the business lines,” the memo reads.
Arora, previously the global head of fintech and innovation for markets, has been with the firm since 1988. He most recently led a fintech investment portfolio within the markets and securities services group. He also managed a project focused on building out electric systems for ICG clients.
