But you know what, I’m going to have to agree with Honeybunchesofgoats here. The thing is, the Tesla Model S had a fake grille when it debuted, and now it doesn’t. The crux of BigBlock440’s argument seems to be that once he or she saw what it looked like with a fake grille, going back to the grille-less reality was too much of a shock. Because the Model S doesn’t have a fake grille that’s been painted over, the grille has really just ceased to exist.

Thus, “it looks like crap.”

Thereby proving Honeybunchesofgoats’ point. We don’t like the look of something, and think it looks bad, once we see how something really looks without any fakery. We could tell ourselves all we want that “it’s not the lack of a grill people don’t like,” but really, it is. We’re all so used to certain design elements, and we all like certain design elements, that maybe, just maybe, every now and then, it’s nice to be lied to. Just once in a while.

We want to be tricked. We want all of that fake tinsel. “Where have we gone wrong?” you wonder. “What the hell is wrong with us?”
