NieR and Drakengard Director Yoko Taro is a man of mystery… in that he always appears with his head encapsulated in a creepy mask made to look like the moon. It’s always hard to get a read on the guy, and when facial expressions are at a loss, he at least has body language to make up for it.
In a “Thank You” video from Square Enix to fans for their support over the upcoming cult-sequel Nier: Automata, Taro and Producer Yosuke Saito sit down to enjoy a German fan-reaction video after the E3 reveal. Wow, I never expected NieR to have a fan-reaction meme on the same level that The Last Guardian, Shenmue III, and Final Fantasy VII Remake got.
I mean, I know the first game has a lot of loyal fans and it’s a decent little playthrough in its own right, but this puts it in the same category as established legends of the trade. Such polar opposites generating the same style of zaniness. Who would have guessed?
Anyway, it’s all said and good. The German fans’ reaction is silly, but Yoko Taro makes it even better by acting like Daffy Duck before a surprise ending. Nier: Automata is in development at Platinum Games for the PlayStation 4, and it will be released in 2016.
