Two years ago at E3 2014, Burnout and Need For Speed developer Criterion Games announced a plan to move “beyond cars” and into other extreme vehicles. The game has not been heard of since, and with two E3 shows coming and going since then, EA has confirmed that the game is no longer in active development.
In a statement to Gamespot, a representative stated:
While they’ve moved on from the previous project they’ve spoken about and aren’t pursuing it, they are continuing to build new ideas and experiment with new IP for EA, in addition to continuing to collaborate with other EA studios.
When we last checked in with Criterion, it was using this experience with fast vehicles to help with the speeder-bikes in Star Wars Battlefront, and it is now collabroating with DICE to mke the Star Wars: X-Wing VR Missions.
The canceled game, which had no title, was set to put players in control of ATVs, helicopters, and speedboats. It seems like the force was stronger in other brands.
