The new trailer for this summer’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided isn’t exactly a story trailer, and it isn’t exactly a gameplay trailer. Instead, it sums up just what Deus Ex is about and does it quite well.
Mankind Dividedis a direct sequel to Human Revolution. The events of HR spurred a wave of hatred toward humans with cybernetic augmentations, and this was all set in motion by a shadowy group profiting from the escalating conflict. Jensen wants to get to the bottom of the conflict.
To get there, he’ll have to make all sorts of choices about who he trusts, and the trailer even calls into question many of his presumed allies. On top of that, though, he’ll have to choose how he wants to approach his mission and continue modifying his own body to make that happen.
The trailer is meant to highlight the number of choices you’ll have to make as you play, and it seems like there will be no shortage of them.
In addition to reminding us just what we’re in store for this August, the trailer takes a couple seconds at the end to highlight the different pre-order versions available for big fans of the series.
There is, of course, the standard “Day One Edition,” which includes some digital goodies: a soundtrack sampler, an extra mission, some digital books, and a “Covert Agent” skin/upgrade pack. That’s priced at the standard $59.99.
For $89.99, you’ll get all of that and the season pass.
If you’re a really big fan, though, there’s the Collector’s Edition, at a pretty beefy $139.99. In addition to including all the Day One content, you’ll also get a 9-inch Adam Jensen figure, an artbook, and a Steelbook case, all packaged in a pretty sweet-looking “prism box.” The season pass doesn’t look to be included in this version, disappointingly.
Nowhere to be found is evidence of the poorly-received “build your own special edition” campaign Eidos launched with the game some months ago. Good thinking, Eidos.
Whether we asked for it or not, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided hits PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on August 23, 2016.
