You already know how this will go down. You’ve seen the movie. You’ve heard the songs. You’ve probably dressed as one of the characters for Halloween. Now, see the movie come to life in Disney’s live-action remake of the 1991 classic.
I had my doubts going in but the trailer (above) has done a lot to assuage those fears. Bringing the characters and setting into the real world works surprisingly well, and Dan Stevens’ Beast is convincing and believable.
Of course, the other characters, including LeFour, Lumière, and Cadenza are all a delight, while the rest of the trailer is full of callbacks to the animated film. Disney’s live-action remakes have been decidedly hit and miss over the past several years but it sure looks like Beauty and the Beast will be a major hit.
If you’ve never had the pleasure of seeing the animated classic, below is the movie’s official synopsis:
Belle is a young woman who is taken prisoner by a Beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s exterior to recognize the true heart and soul of the human Prince within, just as a hunter named Gaston is on the loose to take Belle for himself and hunt down the Beast at any cost.
Where are the songs?
While the movie’s familiar motif can be heard throughout the trailer, we don’t get to hear the movie’s characters break out into song—yet.
That’s the only piece missing from the trailer. Like Disney’s The Jungle Book, the studio is probably saving that magic for the movie’s release.
Beauty and the Beast is set to hit theaters on March 17, 2017.
