Australian driver Matt Mingay went to the hospital in critical condition after a wreck in the Stadium Super Trucks race on Saturday, according to reports. His condition has since been upgraded to serious but stable, but Mingay reportedly suffered facial injuries during the rollover.
The crash occurred during the second SST event of the weekend, a support race for the Verizon IndyCar Series’ Chevrolet Dual in Detroit. Per Detroit Free Press, the incident involving Mingay came in turn five on lap three of the race and medical personnel took the driver off on a stretcher. The Detroit News reports that the roof sheared off of the truck upon its roll, but confirmations of that report are scarce at the moment and the series has released no media of the wreck—photos or video footage—as of this posting.
Due to scheduling and cleanup concerns for the event, which also featured the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, officials called off the remainder of the SST race.
