Evercore has told its incoming summer analysts that their 10-week internship program will begin virtually this year.
The program will run from June 1 to August 6, with an extended training portion of the program taking place from June 1 to June 10, Joanna Walker, Evercore’s director of recruitment, said in a memo dated March 25 that was viewed by Insider.
The decision to begin the internship virtually comes despite Evercore co-CEO Ralph Schlosstein’s previous comments about the importance of having employees back in the office.
“It is very much our goal to be back in the office together — hopefully to even have some of our trainees this summer at least be partly in the office,” Schlosstein told Bloomberg on March 16.
To be sure, Schlosstein might still get his wish.
The firm said it was possible that it would look to offer shortened in-person experiences in its offices depending on safety conditions related to the coronavirus pandemic later in the summer. Such in-office experiences would be entirely optional.
What’s more, because the program will take place virtually, summer analysts will not be required to move or be based near Evercore’s office locations, the memo noted.
Should summer analysts choose to come into the workplace, if that option is permitted, Evercore said that it will cover the costs of the interns’ travel and accommodations.
The June 1 start date also means that the the program has moved a week ahead of when it was originally scheduled to commence in interns’ offer letters, according to the note.
A spokesperson for Evercore declined to comment.
Meanwhile, Insider also reported this week that Jefferies Financial Group, another boutique investment bank, will pivot its 10-week internship program to go virtual for a second year in a row.
