Last month, Microsoft unveiled a new army of chat bots that can carry out specific tasks using artificial intelligence. Now, Facebook may be gearing up to bring a similar set of features to its own popular platform.
ABC News reports that Facebook plans to put a big emphasis on chat bots during its F8 developers conference next week. These artificial intelligence assistants could help you do anything from order dinner to book your next vacation. Even better, you’ll be able to interact with each bot using regular, conversational language.
Facebook Messenger has been testing its own personal AI bot for a while already. The digital assistant, called M, is capable of doing almost anything you ask using a mix of artificial intelligence and human help. However, M still hasn’t officially launched to the general public.
Facebook’s expanded what Messenger can do pretty drastically already. Last year at F8, the company introduced third-party apps to the service. On Friday, it announced enhanced tools for businesses to communicated with customers directly through Messenger.
F8 2016 kicks off on Tuesday. We’ll be following the keynote presentation closely for news on Messenger bots or anything else the company might announce.
